Our Freeride Camps in Gulmarg were developed for guests who intend to learn how to ski in deep snow or who would like to improve their backcountry skiing skills. In addition to the deep powder skiing technique, we provide our course participants also with the required knowledge for the selection of safe routes and to assess the risk of avalanches.

Our powder snow courses are suitable for skiers of all levels who want learn how to ski in deep snow or want to improve their backcountry skiing technique.

Skiers who are capable of making controlled and constant turns on groomed red slopes are ready to start skiing in the backcountry. With professional coaching and the right freeriding skis, it will only take them a couple of days till they can enjoy the pleasures of skiing in deep powder snow!

  • Focus and Sequence of the Course

    In the freeride camps, the participants are prepared for skiing outside the groomed slopes. In a step-by-step approach, they are taught the techniques and behaviors required for safe and controlled backcountry skiing. The priorities defined for the day can change depending on the skill level and the learning progress of the participants.

    The courses start at 09.00h and last 5 hours per day.

Focus and Goals
  • Learn to ski in the deep snow with a Swiss guide and avalanche specialist
  • Courses in small groups in a relaxed and unique environment
  • Rules of thumb for terrain and snow assessment, and hazard evaluation
  • Avalanche training (LVS handling, search + rescue) and 3x3 risk management method
  • Establish and consolidate the ski technique for skiing off-piste
Day 1
  • Introduction to the slopes and warm up turns
  • Skill level assessment of each participant
  • Discovering and stabilizing the individual skiing style
  • Building trust in one’s personal skiing skills
Day 2
  • Explanation and demonstration of powder skiing techniques
  • Optimization of the body position and stabilization of body balance
  • Exercises for body balance shifting and proper edge use
  • First runs in the backcountry near groomed slopes
Day 3
  • How to react in avalanche incidents
  • Explanation and demonstration of avalanche search and rescue methods
  • Field exercises for beacon, shovel and probe usage
  • Reading and interpreting the avalanche bulletin
  • First extended descents in the backcountry
Day 4
  • Full day of powder skiing
Day 5
  • Full day of powder skiing on Mt. Apharwat 4’200m
  • Introduction to the 3x3 avalanche risk management system
  • Tips for safe route selection
  • Theory on snowpack evaluation
  • Execution and interpretation of snow stability tests
Day 6
  • Full day of powder skiing on Mt. Apharwat 4’200m
  • Drang descent, 18km and 2'000 vertical meters
Course Management

  • Decades of experience in guiding and running freeriding programs worldwide, including over 10 years in the Himalayas
  • Trained avalanche specialist, educated at the WSL – Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research SLF in Davos/Switzerland
Travel - Flights - Visa!

Normally the participants book their flights independently and also take care of their visa application. Upon request we can of course arrange for the flight tickets through our partner travel agency. Flight tickets from Europe to Delhi and Srinagar are available at starting prices of approx. CHF 900 (ca. EUR 600)

For the domestic flights from Delhi to Srinagar we recommend Jet Airways who also take off directly from the international "Terminal 3".

IMPORTANT: For flights with other domestic airlines the minimal transfer time between the international airport "Terminal 3" and the domestic airport "Terminal 1" for guaranteed connecting flights is 3 hours.

To visit India a visa is needed. The respective information and application forms can be downloaded from the Indian Embassy website in the respective country of residence.
